Introduction 1

The objective of the course is to introduce to students the major social, environmental and individual factors that play a role in sports. Students will learn about the social factors playing a role in sports, the theoretical explanations pertaining to these factors and the latest research findings. During the course, students will be introduced into the various dimensions, forms of sports, the possible approaches to the world of sports, the effects of sports on the physical, mental and social well-being of the individual. The participants of the course shall learn about the interrelations between sports and other forms of health-conscious behaviour and other sub-systems of society. They will study about the phenomena in sports that are also important for the external world.

The study material is recommended to those who study any segment of sport through some other discipline, and who deal with sports and sportspeople as professionals and ascribe importance to learning about the social aspects of sports, thus expanding their vision of the issue.
